Freedom Collection
Our ‘Freedom’ tee collection carries part of a drawing created by Abdul Basir Salarzai specifically for SolidariTee.
Abdul is 18, and came to Greece after he was forced to leave Afghanistan. His drawing is of birds flying over the mountains of Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital, which surround the city. Abdul describes his artwork as ‘just the picture I have in my memory’, and is one of the last views of Afghanistan he had.
Today, Abdul visits the community centre at Velos Youth, one of our partner organisations that exists to support young people, where he has previously received SolidariTee-funded legal assistance. Today, he still visits the centre to attend English classes and talk to other young people. When asked to describe Velos Youth, he simply said ‘everything is fantastic’.
Every t-shirt sold funds trauma-informed legal assistance, information, and representation for refugees and other people forced to flee violence, persecution and abuse. These vital services provided by our partner NGOs working in Greece, where more than one person every 10 minutes has arrived in search of safety in 2024, and where many living in camps this winter report not even being provided with blankets for them and their children.
In this context, legal aid is one of the most empowering, lasting, dignified forms of support we can offer. Legal assistance restores agency, prevents unjust rejections that can lead to destitution and abuse, and equips people to navigate the bureaucratic and other requirements in order to access housing, work, healthcare and employment. Above all, it gives each person their best chance to access their fundamental rights to peace and safety within an arduous, deeply destabilising legal landscape.
Available in both black and pistachio, this collection carries the word ‘freedom’, or ‘ελευθερία’ (el-ef-the-ri-a), in both English and Greek. This reflects SolidariTee’s, and our partners’ vision for the future: a world in which everybody is free from persecution based on who they are or what they believe.
About these t-shirts
These t-shirts are made from 100% organic cotton, which uses substantially less water to produce than other types of cotton. Both the t-shirts themselves and the designs use only vegan, non-toxic inks, without the animal products and toxic PVC that are found in many other products.
The shirts also carry OKEO-TEX and GOTS accreditation, and are Fair Wear certified. Fair Wear verifies that members implement and adhere to the Code of Labour Practice, ensuring that exploitative labour has no place in the future of sustainable fashion.
Moreover, these tees produce 90% less CO2 than an identical product manufactured using traditional energy sources, achieved through low-impact organic farming, efficiency in manufacturing and transportation, and the use of renewable energy instead of the fossil fuel based grid electricity.
Our shirts are manufactured by EarthPositive®, a multi-award-winning consumer brand of low carbon apparel created to help combat the climate crisis, with designs printed by Fifth Column, a London Living Wage employer with a focus on ethical and sustainable fashion.
For every t-shirt purchased online, SolidariTee also plants a tree through Ecologi.
